(HISTORY)
The history of Borgo Petrojo traces back to Roman times, with evidence of its ancient origins visible in the “Opus Reticulatum” walls that still stand today. This Roman settlement, once known as “Il Paradiso,” later evolved with the addition of a medieval tower and other structures, reflecting the needs of the inhabitants over centuries.

An old gravel road, once a medieval link between Siena and Florence, still winds through the estate, leading to the restored church of St. Michael Archangel. Once abandoned, this historic site was revived by the Lenzi family, preserving its legacy as a place of worship and cultural significance, where famed artist Jacopo della Quercia was likely baptized.

At the end of World War II the Villa of Petroio was hit by a bomb, that fortunately didn't detonate, while the current owner of the property, Gian Luigi Lenzi, was hidden in the cellars at the age of 2. The shell remains still today as a reminder of history and it's precious teachings.

The estate became part of the Pallini family’s holdings in the early 1800s, eventually passing to Luigi Pallini and later Gian Luigi Lenzi, the current owner. Over generations, the estate has transformed into a welcoming villa and modern winery, balancing careful preservation of its historic structures with updates to its cellars, tasting rooms, and olive oil facilities.
